Family Story - Making the Moves - Part One

I can't remember ever NOT moving.

Since I was a nursing baby, my family moved from one place to another (yes, my mother admitted to both nursing AND driving the moving van at the same time, in an age before seat belts so I'm probably very lucky to even be here to write this).

From Florida we moved to Orem, UT. Then on to Salt Lake City, which is where my first recognizable memories were formed.

We made a couple of moves in Salt Lake, and then it was on to Las Vegas, where we lived until I was sixteen!

Most people think of this when they think of Las Vegas, but truthfully, where I lived, it looked more like this. Ah, that Red Rock Valley!

From there, my family took off for the unknown wilds of Maryland, right in the middle of high school, which frankly sucked, but I tried to make the best of it.

The travel brochures my parents showed me looked something like this:

The reality looked more like this:

From this inauspicious upbringing, I moved on to New York City to go to college! If you can make it there...

 ...you have a whopping lot of money. I didn't, and I couldn't.

So I moved back in with Mom and Dad, and started working in Washington DC. Decided to travel a bit. I went on a week-long trip to England and Scotland, which I loved. Didn't want to come home from Scotland, but it was not meant to be.

Moved by myself after that to live with my brother and his wife in Seattle, Washington. Lived and worked and married there...

Also got fired there (I'm a terrible receptionist), and moved myself and hubby back to Maryland to live with my parents once again (which again, sucked, though Mom and Dad did their best and really saved our lives). We found work in DC and lived there for many years, until September 11, 2001 shook everything up again (to be continued....)

  1. That's right, I forgot. Well, in my defense, I was only a few months old at the time. I have no memories from there - I only remember it started with an 'O'. :-)
