This story could have been really dull and factual...and short.
After all, how much is there to someone's birth, really? I was born in early 1970, on March 6th, in Mercy Hospital in Miami, Dade County, Florida. The first daughter of Douglas and Nadeoui (pronounced 'Nah-dee-whee') Eden.
However, what's the point of being a writer if you can't inject a little legend into your own story?
My mother saved the newspaper that came out the day I was born...something I wished I'd thought to do for my own kids. It was here that I learned of the fateful event.
A total solar eclipse.
The day after I entered this world, there was a total solar eclipse that was visible in Florida that year.
Samuel Clements (aka Mark Twain - also my 13th cousin, once removed) was born the year Halley's Comet came around. He claimed that he rode the comet in, and he'd ride it out, and by golly he did. He passed away the day after it came back, at age 76.
Since my name is also moon-related, it makes perfect sense, doesn't it? I finally arrive in this world, and the moon darkens out the sun right in the spot where I'm born. A special celestial reverse-spotlight just for me.
Such is my myth and my legend.
Now, does that mean that I'm predicting a solar eclipse over Texas when I pass away someday?
Absolutely, only I've got a lot more solar eclipses to choose from than Mark Twain had comets.
According to a local eclipse calendar, there's one coming very close to Texas on February 21st and 22, 2073. I'll be 103 by then, and probably very ready to go at that point.
Or maybe not...I don't know. I've got a lot to do here still.
