Next story, and a first glance at Crystal Hanson.

Tomorrow's story is just about done. Another story based on my novel, "Sanctuary".

My youngest daughter likes to draw in church sometimes. Helps her concentrate. She's always and forever asking for a subject to draw, and I'm forever coming up blank. "I don't know - those flowers? The speaker? That girl's hair?"

She's good at it, but she gets tired of drawing flowers all the time.

Yesterday she asked me if she could draw a picture of my main character, Crystal Hanson.

I got a little excited about that.

For anyone who hasn't read my novel yet, Crystal Hanson is the central character of Sanctuary. You may have noticed her popping up here and there in my side stories of the novel as other smaller characters experience her.

Problem is, I never knew what she looked like.

That's kind of a strange problem to admit, when I've already written over 300 pages about her. But I never could visualize her, not fully.

I knew she had dark hair, and brown eyes. I knew she had a sharp, intelligent look about her.

But the picture never came to me. I guess that's just how my brain works.

So my daughter drew her picture. I gave her a description, based on the snippets of her I did know. She warned me it might be a little cartoony (she draws mostly anime-style drawings), and I was okay with that.

Looking at her for the first time was a little strange for me. Someone I knew so well, but had never seen before with my eyes. The drawing really felt right though.

I'm excited to share it tomorrow, along with the story entitled, "The Mud on Their Shoes". Hope you'll look for it.
