Scrambled Randomness - Why a new short story?

 
Starting on a new short story adaptation today - off to a promising start with names and the first part of the story, but I never know how these things will turn out, you know?

I don't control the process. I don't know if I ever will.

I only control the action of writing, which I do with regularity.

In the meantime, I'm posting Kurt Vonnegut's suggestions on how to write a good short story, as a reminder to myself.



Not a lot of people write short stories anymore - they don't come with the same cachet or respect or money that writing novels brings.

I've got a novel waiting to be written...and my brain wants to write short stories instead.

But that's okay.

I've come to a point in life where I'm willing to trust this process. I'm in my apprenticeship. Eventually I'll be sending out stories to magazines when they're ready, when I've really got something good to offer.

My goal is to write 52 short stories before I officially start to publish. Working on number 15 right now.
