Scrambled Randomness - Interview Commentary Over Isaac Asimov

I have many loves when it comes to writing, and there are so many good interviews with classic authors on YouTube. One of the greater ones is Isaac Asimov.

My book, "Sanctuary", draws a lot of material and inspiration from Asimov's novel "The Gods Themselves", especially the aliens in the second half of his book. My very favorite work of his.

Dr. Asimov was unbelievably prolific, as a very young Charlie Rose talked about in this interview. He even decides to write another book in the midst of this interview that he never got to finish.(7:08)

He felt the same way about writing that I do - he wrote because he liked it. Plain and simple. (5:50 and 7:38)  I've been writing in some form or another  - journaling, stories, poems, essays, blogs, whatever - since I was eight years old. I've probably thrown away more writing than most people have ever actually done.

He talks about how he handles writer's block (4:44). Also similar to my own process.

He started early and went late, but with many interruptions. (6:28). So he sort of wrote all day long, but was probably always working the thing out in his head while doing other things.

How did he know so much even though he spent so much time writing? (18:25) :-) Take it to heart, people! It's essential for a writer, in my own more humble opinion.

Are writers born or made? (20:50) I sort of agree with his answer, to an extent.

Very charming and funny man. I would have loved to have had a sit-down conversation with him like this one.
